A Father's Day Community Series • Part One
Over Father's Day weekend, we invited our community to do something simple:
Tell us about a dad who has made a difference in your life.
More than 1,100 of you took the time to respond.
Some stories were only a sentence or two. Others filled the page. Some made me smile, while others brought me to tears.
As I worked through each submission, one thing became incredibly clear: the fathers people remember most aren't necessarily the loudest, the wealthiest, or the most accomplished. They're the ones who simply kept showing up.
They showed up after long days at work, for doctor's appointments, school plays, baseball games, bedtime stories, and difficult conversations. They showed up when life was ordinary, and they showed up when life became incredibly hard.
As a mom, I've had the privilege of watching Luke's dad walk this road beside me. Through uncertainty, long days, disappointment, and hope, he's continued to show up for our family in countless quiet ways that often go unnoticed.
Reading your stories reminded me that our family isn't unique. This community is full of fathers doing exactly the same thing.
This first collection celebrates those dads.
The stories below have been lightly edited for grammar and length while preserving each author's voice. Some names have been abbreviated to help protect privacy.
Hero
"Hero" is the one word I've always used to describe my dad.
At nine years old, I watched him leave our family and move to a foreign country so his six children could have opportunities he never had. He worked multiple jobs, missed birthdays and milestones, and spent ten years away from us so we could build a better future.
I remember waiting after every school year just to show him my report cards because he always reminded me to do my best.
By God's grace, we were eventually reunited, and today I still get to spend time with my favorite person.
To the world he may be just another dad. To me, he'll always be my hero.

Shoulder Rides & Silly Faces
Thank you for the cuddles, the tickles, the shoulder rides, and the silly faces.
Thank you for reading one more bedtime story, chasing little feet through the house, and giving the biggest hugs.
You're my favorite playmate, my protector, and my best buddy.
I love you, Daddy.

The Dad I Never Had
Thank you for being the dad I never had.
Watching you love our boys has healed parts of my own childhood I didn't realize were still hurting. You don't just provide for our family—you lead it with patience, kindness, and unconditional love.
Our boys are growing up with the father I always wished for, and I couldn't be more grateful.
We love you.

Partner in Chaos
My husband is the kind of dad who never hesitates to jump into whatever our kids need.
Homework. Bike rides. Dance parties in the kitchen. Last-minute science projects.
He's exhausted plenty of days, but our kids would never know it. When they ask him to play, he almost always says yes.
I hope that's what they remember most.

Intentional
Being a great dad isn't about grand gestures.
It's found in the little things—listening, showing up, apologizing when you're wrong, and teaching by example.
Every day, my husband chooses those little things, and I know our children are becoming better people simply because they're watching him.

Always There
My dad has never wanted recognition.
He simply showed up.
School events. Sporting events. Graduations. The difficult days. The ordinary days.
If I looked into the crowd, he was there.
I didn't realize how extraordinary that was until I became an adult.

As I read these stories, I noticed something that kept appearing over and over again.
Very few people talked about careers, promotions, or accomplishments. Instead, they remembered fishing trips, dad jokes, bedtime routines, shoulder rides, long workdays followed by time together, and the simple comfort of knowing Dad would be there.
Maybe that's what fatherhood really is.
Not perfection.
Not having all the answers.
Just continuing to show up.
To every dad quietly carrying more than most people will ever know—thank you.
Your children notice. And someday, they'll tell stories like these.
With gratitude,
Kristina

I loved reading the heartfelt messages about fathers. I lost mine to a tragic car accident in ‘96. He’s missed by the family. I loved being in the kitchen when he cooked and when he tended the garden we had so many years ago. He was very caring. He could tell when something was wrong with you just by looking at you. I enjoyed playing board games, cards, and watching games with my dad. When I was younger I danced around the house with him. I loved waking up to him singing around the home with my mom when I was younger also. He was very caring. He loved checking in on family and friends.
Reading these people stories about their dad is so heartwarming.
Thank you for doing this.
This is a total blessing to see such good hearts while you’re working full-time and putting on this organization
I am always praying for Luke that something somehow a cure will be found 🙏 I keep saying all things are possible through our Lord Jesus Christ.
He is our father.
He watches over us I pray he will help you find a cure.
My Dad is in heaven he was such a supportive Dad to me, my siblings and my children while they were growing up even during the loss of one of my grandsons.
My dad was the one that stepped up and bought his casket and everything .
I never knew he had a brother that passed away at birth until then that’s when I found out he had a brother that passed away at birth also.
so hearing these stories about the dad’s it’s heartwarming, and it did put a smile on my face and I thank you again for doing this❤️
