Award-Winning Design for a Visual Narrative
Premiering at the 2025 Athens Epidaurus Festival, Blindness is a visceral performance work based on the novel by José Saramago and adapted for the stage by Simon Stephens. The narrative centers on a fictional blindness epidemic. To bring this intense story to life, lighting designer Christina Thanasoula utilized an inventive design featuring 24 Astera Titan Tubes housed within battered scenic elements. These fixtures were chosen to replicate the stark, institutional feel of an abandoned hospital psychiatric ward, providing the precise color shifting and light dispersion necessary to establish the production's mood and location.
